BMU Transmission Pole Testing and Inspections 2026
August 10, 2026
Brookings Municipal Utilities (BMU) has contracted with SBS Inspections, Inc. to conduct routine testing and inspections of transmission poles throughout the service area in 2026 as part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable electric system.
These inspections are designed to assess the condition and structural integrity of transmission poles to help ensure dependable electric service for BMU customers.
Testing activities will require crews to work near individual transmission poles and may take place in road ditches, boulevards, utility easements, and residential yards, as necessary. Work performed on or around the poles may include:
- Digging around the base of poles
- Hammering or drilling into or around poles for testing purposes
- Other activities necessary to access and evaluate pole strength and condition
- Spreading grass seed and restoring areas affected by excavation work
Customers may notice SBS personnel working throughout the community during the testing process. BMU appreciates residents’ cooperation as crews complete these important inspections.
Pole inspections are a critical part of maintaining the reliability and safety of the electric distribution system and help BMU continue providing dependable service to customers.
