A Friendly Reminder About What Not to Flush
September 16, 2025
A quick reminder to help keep our community’s sewer system running smoothly.
Lately, we’ve seen an increase in clogs at our sewer lift stations. These clogs are often caused by items being flushed or poured down drains that our system isn’t designed to handle. While it might seem harmless, flushing the wrong things can lead to backups and costly repairs—not just for the system, but potentially for your home too.
Here’s a helpful list of things to avoid flushing or pouring down the drain:
- Wipes of any kind (even those labeled “flushable”)
- Diapers and personal hygiene products
- Paper towels and tissues
- Cotton swabs, dental floss
- Medications (prescription, over-the-counter)
- Plastics or wrappers
- Cooking grease or oils
Our sewer system is built to handle only human waste and toilet paper. Everything else should go in the trash or be taken to a proper disposal site.
Why it matters:
By being mindful of what goes down the drain, you’re helping protect our shared infrastructure, the environment, and your own home. Clogged pipes and sewer backups are a costly expense for the homeowner. Thank you so much for your cooperation.
