6th St Water Tower Demo

Brookings Municipal Utilities has prepared to say farewell to one of Brookings’ landmarks, the 6th Street Water Tower. Built in 1948 by the Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. the six-column tower has been in service for more than seven decades.

The 6th St tower was taken out of service following the completion of the newly constructed 4th St Water Tower. Since then, the 6th St 250,000-gallon tank has sat empty. Demolition will officially begin as scheduled on May 11th.
