Budget Billing

Budget billing allows you to pay a set amount for utilities each month.

This service makes bills more predictable for customers.

How does it work?

Brookings Municipal Utilities offers a Budget Billing Program to residential and small business customers who have 12 months of utility billing history at their current service address.

This program runs July-June of each year. The deadline to sign up for the program is May 31 of each year.

The monthly budgeted amount is calculated annually based on the customers' previous year’s usage + 10%. To properly calculate the budget amount, your utility account must be paid in full.

The budget billing period begins with the July billing and ends with the June billing. The June bill will reflect the difference between the budgeted amount and the actual amount billed based on your usage. That difference is to be paid on or before July 15 of each year. If you happen to have a credit on your account after the June billing, the credit will be applied to your account.

If Interested:

• Deadline to signup is May 31 of each year.
• Applicants must have lived at their current service address for at least 12 full billing months.
• Customers signed up for this program will be required to pay their budgeted amount July-May of each year, with June’s bill reflecting the final balance for the budget billing year.
• The Budget Billing Program is offered as a service to you. If you become delinquent in making payments, we will remove your account from budget billing.
