Brookings Municipal Utilities - Brookings, South Dakota
Electrical Utility Services

Brookings Municipal Utilities receives all of its energy needs from two sources. Approximately 40% of Brookings’ power requirements are supplied from Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) with power coming from dams along the Missouri River.

The other 60% of Brookings’ power needs are supplied by Missouri River Energy Services (MRES). The primary source of power for MRES is a coal-fired power plant in Wheatland, Wyoming called Laramie River Station. Laramie River Station has been named one of the most efficient, cleanest operating power plants in the U.S. for the past several years.
