New Electric Service

In areas that have power equipment (transformers, pedestals, etc.) already installed, most new services will be installed within seven working days of the application. In new development areas, the time may be increased to allow for installation of the other equipment. In an emergency situation where service needs to be installed sooner for safety reasons, we will do our best to meet the customer's need.

New Security Lights

Application for the installation of a security light may be made at the Utility Office at 525 Western Avenue. You will need to state the desired wattage and location of the light.

The light will be installed on an existing pole or structure and connected to the Brookings Municipal Utilities’ lines without metering. If the pole or structure does not meet requirements of the area to be lighted, BMU will furnish the necessary material and labor. Upon completion of the installation labor and material charges will be billed. If the light is requested to be removed in less than two years, a $20.00 service fee will be applied.

New Service Energize

If you have a new electric service installed and you wish to have it energized; you may call (605) 697-8408. You will need verification that a wiring affidavit has been filed and that the service has been paid for.
