New Street Light Request Available Through Engage Brookings App

 

Brookings, SD – The City of Brookings and Brookings Municipal Utilities (BMU) are happy to announce they have partnered to provide a new “street lights” service request option through the Engage Brookings app.
Brookings launched the Engage Brookings resident reporting app in 2020 to provide a way for community members to engage with city staff and report issues, ask questions, and make requests. The City found the app to be a successful way for residents to communicate their needs directly through request categories set up for street maintenance, potholes, tree issues, COVID-19 questions, and more. They also realized they could provide additional tools to community members by partnering with Brookings Municipal Utilities.

“We are excited to partner with Brookings Municipal Utilities to expand the Engage Brookings platform to include street light requests,” said Brookings Assistant City Manager Jacob Meshke. “Citizens began submitting street light requests through the ‘Other’ category, which highlighted an opportunity for a designated service request for street light issues. This is a great example of capturing citizen feedback, promoting responsiveness, and furthering the collaboration between the City and Brookings Municipal Utilities.”

The new “street lights” service request category will allow residents to report issues regarding street lights directly to BMU and engage with their staff on a resolution.

Brookings Municipal Utilities had always offered a street light reporting tool on their website, but they found it to be cumbersome to use. The partnership and ease of use of the Engage Brookings app is a solution that is beneficial to both organizations and Brookings residents.

“Brookings Municipal Utilities is excited to partner with the City of Brookings and the Engage Brookings platform,” said BMU Electric Department Manager Russell Halgerson. “We see this as a great opportunity to streamline our street light reporting process, improve customer service, and enhance the citizen experience with Brookings Municipal Utilities.

Residents can now report street light issues directly to Brookings Municipal Utilities through the app by choosing the street light request option, following prompts to enter information, and sending the requisition. Once sent, they can track the request until it is resolved.
